Aave is a lending protocol where depositors supply assets to shared pools and borrowers draw against collateral they have locked. Interest rates adjust algorithmically with pool utilisation rather than being set by a counterparty. Positions that fall below their collateral threshold are liquidated by third parties, which keeps the pools solvent without custodial intervention.
