iOS 27.2 Is Out: New Siri AI Languages and Duo Pencil Support

Key points

  • Apple released iOS 27.2 on Monday, October 26, 2026, according to MacRumors. It is the first major update since iOS 27 launched in September.
  • Siri AI now works in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. It is still unavailable in the European Union and mainland China.
  • The USB-C Apple Pencil now works with the iPhone Duo. The Apple Pencil Pro and other models do not, 9to5Mac reports.
  • Apple Music gets a new black-and-white icon, and the Apple TV app gets household profiles.
  • The redesigned Health app was in earlier betas but was removed before release. 9to5Mac reports that Apple still plans it for later this year.
  • The update installs from Settings General Software Update. Apple's release notes mention security updates, but the specific fixes were not available in the sources checked.

Apple released iOS 27.2 on Monday, October 26, adding Siri AI in five new languages, a redesigned Apple Music app and Apple Pencil support for the iPhone Duo.

The update arrives about six weeks after iOS 27 and a week after Apple sent the release candidate to developers on October 19. It runs on every iPhone that supports iOS 27, including the iPhone Duo, Apple’s first foldable.

Siri AI reaches five more languages

The headline change is language support. MacRumors reports that Siri AI now supports French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. A device must be eligible and set to the matching language, Cult of Mac notes. Siri AI is not available in the EU or mainland China. Apple says more languages are coming later this year.

The Siri AI features in this update are listed for iPhone 16 models and later, plus the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. They include:

Change

What it does

Conversation recall

Siri can refer back to earlier conversations, such as a restaurant it suggested days before

More personal context

Siri can draw on photos attached in Messages, Calendar attendees, voicemails, and Safari history and Reading List results

Excluded Apps

One setting controls which apps Siri, Search and suggestions can access

Partial copy

Users can select and copy only part of a Siri response

Cult of Mac says the Excluded Apps setting was renamed from App Access and allows several apps to be selected at once. The wider access to personal data is the part to read carefully. Siri can now look at voicemails and message photos, and the exclusion setting is the control that limits it.

iPhone Duo gets Apple Pencil support

Apple Pencil support for the iPhone Duo arrives in this release, after Apple said it would come later in the year, according to 9to5Mac. Only the USB-C Apple Pencil works. “Apple Pencil Pro and other Pencil models aren’t supported,” 9to5Mac writes. The update also adds Edge Light, which lights the user’s face during video calls, on the Duo, per MacRumors.

The Duo starts at $1,999 and has been difficult to buy since pre-orders sold out, so this update reaches a small group of owners first.

Apple Music, Messages and the rest

Apple Music has the most visible change. The red app icon is replaced by a black-and-white one, selected tabs use blue instead of red, and widgets have black backgrounds, according to 9to5Mac.

Other changes the sources describe:

  • Messages: Suggested Actions offers shortcuts based on the conversation, such as creating a calendar event or reminder from a message about plans. Each suggestion type can be switched off in Settings.

  • Apple TV: Profiles let each household member keep separate viewing history and recommendations. Child profiles include content rating controls, says Cult of Mac, which also lists multiview for up to four supported sports streams.

  • Photos: Shared Albums allow edited captions and comments, avoid duplicate photos, and remind participants before an album expires. Apple also adds SynthID watermark detection, which helps identify images made or changed with generative tools in Photos and Image Playground.

  • FaceTime: Users can add a third-party sign language interpreter or live captioner to a call. Dual Capture, which shares front and rear camera views, extends to group calls and requires an iPhone 17 or later, according to Cult of Mac.

  • Podcasts: The Home tab splits into New Episodes and Continue Playing.

  • Home: Compatible smart locks get Lock After Closing and a Door Left Open alert that can be set from 5 to 30 minutes.

  • European Union: An alternative, expanded App Tracking Transparency prompt, per MacRumors.

Apple released HomePod software 27.2 and updates for other devices the same day, including watchOS 27.2, tvOS 27.2 and visionOS 27.2. The HomePod update brings Sound Glow, a light pattern that pulses to audio, to the HomePod mini and second-generation HomePod.

The Health app redesign is missing

The redesigned Health app appeared in early iOS 27.2 betas, and MacRumors reported on October 19 that Apple later removed it. The final release ships with the older Health app. 9to5Mac reports that Apple still plans the upgrade for later this year, but there is no confirmed date.

What Apple says about security

Apple’s release notes say iOS 27.2 includes security updates, according to MacRumors. A MacRumors page headline referred to more than 160 fixed vulnerabilities, but the article text gave no details, and Apple’s iOS 27 security page did not list 27.2 content when checked. The count could not be confirmed. For comparison, Apple’s original iOS 27 release on September 14 fixed 126 flaws, according to eSecurity Planet. Apple also released iOS 26.7.2 with security updates for devices that have not moved to iOS 27.

Anyone who delays installing should check Apple’s security releases page for the full list once it is published. For earlier Apple platform news, see our Apple coverage.
